The post where I've been proven wrong

So it happened, Cryptic proved me wrong. Since CO went F2P people have been loving it, been paying money in the C-Store and Cryptic has seen a huge revenue boost. In turn they have turned that in to a huge production boost. There's new stuff coming out all the time, the latest State of the Game has a very nice roadmap laid out on what they plan to improve the game including finally working on the End Game, the next adventure pack is on the way, they're looking at doing weekly content like STO's episodes, and most impressive of all is they've managed to keep my money. Bravo Cryptic. I admit when I've been wrong and humbly bow to you. Now, let's see if you can keep this momentum going.

Great RPer? Not really.

So this one is gonna be kind of short but it's been brewing for awhile. There's a type of RPer out there that we've all seen, the male RPer that plays nothing but or predominantly plays female characters. I'll go on record as saying yes, I do play some female characters. I used to play more but I find myself playing them less and less anymore. Anyway, I honestly don't have a problem with males that RP female characters. My problems comes with the guys that RP female characters and consider themselves great RPers but only play lesbians.

My problem with this is simple, it's not a stretch to RP. You're a guy, you like women, and now so does your character. So, why role a woman? Oh right, you don't wanna have to look at a male character all day. Honestly this type of RPer has like zero respect from me. They're partially responsible for the groups of bad lesbian RPers you find hanging out in most games anymore. 20 lesbian characters hanging out in one area and of them maybe 1 is actually played by a chick. My respect goes to guys who RP female characters and RP straight relationships. This is where being a good RPer comes in to play. I've run in to some guys that play really convincing chicks and I've run in to some that make me wanna punch them in the face.

Honestly the more I RP the more these poor RPers grate my nerves. There are, of course, other types of bad RPers out there and I'm very likely to write about them at some point but for now we'll stick with the male lesbians.

When there's nothing left it's time to move on

I've played CO since launch. I have a few 40's, I've done all the content except TT because I just don't have the time, I've explored, beat people up, dabbled in PvP, learned the lore, gotten involved in the different communities that have popped up. Sadly however, I think it's about time I said goodbye to the game. It's been something that's been brewing for awhile actually.


As I said I've been playing CO since launch, actually since the last stage of beta. I was there for the launch day changes. Like many I was less then pleased by this "balancing" that they did. I stuck it out though. I even stuck it out through the 2-3 months that the game was next to unplayable on Nvidia based video cards. I stood by them through in game drama, poor business choices, their failed attempt at wanting to put out a paid expansion only a few months after launch. I was there for Vibora Bay, the first Halloween and Christmas events. I was there when Serpent Lantern launched and more recently when Demonflame went live. I've even dabbled in the F2P beta. The last part has played a large part in my choice to part ways. There are others of course.

Back when I first started playing CO I was part of an internet radio station that dedicated itself to CO, Storm Radio. Through them I started meeting other groups. Eventually Storm went the way of the dodo for reason I wont talk about. A few months later I helped form Dimensional Radio.During the course of time all this was happening I was playing the game a lot. Leveling characters, trying content and builds, even RPing when I could. Eventually I got someone to 40, then a second one, then almost a third. While leveling that third character something dawned on me, except for Vibora Bay there wasn't a lot of new leveling content. Sure you could play through Serpent Lantern and Demonflame starting at level 11 but the XP was rather crap thus making leveling through them pretty piss poor. What leveling content did exist in game was pretty stupid easy, missions designed for a team of three could be soloed. In fact the whole game could be soloed save for the two lairs(Nemesis Confrontation and Therakial's Temple) The lairs I found to be kind of boring because they didn't need the players to act as a team just walk in, hit shit hard and leave.

All in all I found that over a year the game hadn't really improved. The game play was bland, there were still bugs from before launch that had never been fixed, teaming was a joke. Then they announced F2P. I admit I got excited. Not because I planned to stop paying, rather the opposite, I planned to continue to pay to help the game and hopefully we'd start to see people in game again. Then I got into F2P beta. The archtypes the free accounts will have to use are, well they're a joke. Unbalanced as all hell and completely boring to play. "Well that's the idea, you can /pay/ if you don't want to use them." Yeah except if I was trying CO for the first time and using these archtypes I'd bail before I even /considered/ paying for it. They make the game boring. Bleh fine, I'll stick around for the RP. I still like RP.

Honestly the RP in CO has gone to hell. Drama, vampires, werewolves, furries and lesbians being played by dock workers is pretty much the norm. There's /nothing/ super about the RP. Don't bother trying to /create/ good RP either because it wont get attention. RP has become very much a clique event. You're either with the milshake club or you're not. And it's not just the milkshake club(because someone is gonna read this and know who I'm talking about) it's all the RPers. "Well we're not ignoring you were just working on closed RP." Really? Then why the fuck are you doing it in public? Look I'm not against closed RP but when I do it it's in an environment I can control. Don't stand there in a social instance and get pissed because someone tries to join your RP. All in all it's gotten to a point where CO can die in a fire. I want /real/ superhero RP even if I have to make it myself. Which, in this case, I'm already working on.

So yeah, me and CO, it's time we went our different ways. I'd love to say I'm leaving for some big, new MMO but I'm not, it's just that you've refused to change, refused to improve and well, I demand more from my interactive entertainment. So long Champions Online, I still hope one day you prove me wrong but honestly I wont be crying the day they shut down your servers.

So I honestly haven't felt the need for a blog before. I usually subject the poor fools in IRC or following me on Twitter to my rants but holy shit this one is big. So fair warning I'm highly pissed and there will most likely be a lot of swearing in this post.

So for those who don't know I've had a period of bad luck that had me living back at home with my mother. So my mom went and met someone, good for her. After a bit she broke up with said person. Why? Because the person was a fucking nut job. Not the quirky, funny nut job but like rubber room and a straight jacket kind of nut job. So a few months pass and bam, they're back together. WTF!? Why? Because said nut job promised things would be better. Really? You really fell for that shit? Cause no one has ever promised things would be better if someone came back to them and then went missing a few months later. Nope, nothing could possibly go wrong there. Oh wait, let's make it better. Now she wants to MOVE IN with said nut job. Seriously? You guys were back together for like a week and it's a great idea to move in together huh. Fine, whatever. So now she's moving out of her house, the house I was living in with her. So what about me? Well I have 3 months to find work, in a shitty economy, and either move, or find someone to live there with me. Fine, 3 month is great. Fast forward one month and I get a call from my mom, gotta move out in one month because she decided she was gonna find renters before my time was up. FUCK! So now I'm still looking for work and in a scramble of trying to find a place to stay. Now I fucking lucked out on finding a place to stay, friend promised to help me get around and find work and all(that's another rant all together).

So fast forward another 3 months after I move and things are getting better. I have a job, a place to stay, working on my license, have other job prospects I'm looking at. Fine and dandy. Then today my mom calls. Guess what, after less then 6 months she's moving again. Why? BECAUSE SHIT WASN'T ANY DIFFERENT! Big fucking surprise. So let me make sure I have this right, I was forced to uproot my life and move so you could go live with someone because they fucking promised things would be different and instead of playing wait and see to be sure you were STUPID enough to fucking believe them? Oh, I DO have that right. Just fucking checking. I mean seriously, I know she's not the brightest bulb in the box but FUCK. However payback is a fucking bitch. She's got less then 30 days to move. She can't fight it because there's no renter's agreement and in the state of Maryland a notice of eviction in a case with no renter's agreement is only needed once permanent residency has been established, which takes, you got it, 6 months. Also since she has a renter's agreement with the people renting FROM her she'd have to give them at least 30 days notice to vacate. So here I sit typing this with a mix of "Oh you bitch" and "ha! karma fucking sucks doesn't it?"
